St George for the weekend

Took a little family trip to St George last weekend (because it is close) to get away. The best part...indoor pool and spa. The boys would have just loved to go anywhere, because staying in a hotel is awesome! Especially when there is a pool & waffles for breakfast!

Ended up swimming 5 times....I think that was the count.

Thankfully we had a room with 2 queen beds and then another room attached with a king bed, so we could close the door and watch our own TV!

Fun time had by all. Just a chance to get away from work and all responsibilities was fun.

Snow in Vegas!

We don't have snow very often, so when it is here, it's crazy. Just a little snow Monday morning (the first day back to school after the break, of course). Kids had a fun 20 minutes of playing in it & then they were off to school. Just as quickly, it was melted and gone. The best snow ever!

I was able to visit my fabulous sister (and husband) so I could meet my nephew Jack Henry! He is a cute chubby boy that is just 3 months old and starting to talk. So, of course, I had to share the video.

I had a relaxing time -without 3 crazy boys- and was glad to be able to see my sister again. We didn't do much because it was so hot & humid, but it was good to relax and help with the baby. Now, back to reality! School starts soon!!

Zion National Park

We took a short family trip to Zion this week. It was hot, but not nearly as hot as Vegas! The boys had a great time exploring nature. Only a few complaints of tired legs (mostly by the one with the shortest legs). It was great to get away from the XBox and all for a couple days.

Slip n Slide

Thanks to Uncle Shane (THE coolest!) we were able to have some extra fun on Memorial Day. The boys spent more than an hour on the Slip n Slide and we pretty much turned the grass into a swamp!

Preschool Graduation

Colin has now made it to the end of preschool! He will be 5 next month, so he will start Kindergarten in the fall. He is so ready. Preschool has helped him be away from family and make new friends. His teacher (Ms. Karilee) was awesome & she had a graduation party for them on Friday. She is so creative....she even had little hats and scrolls for them (no photos with the hat because Colin wouldn't wear it).

The only other boy in Colin's class became his best buddy!

Cub Scout Day Camp

Liam & Quinn had day camp a few weeks ago on a Saturday. It was pirate themed & they had a lot of fun. They weren't sure what it was going to be like (their first time at it) but ended up liking it!! Here are some photos thanks to their leader!

Family Olympics

We had a Family Olympics the other day with the Clayton Family. Our kids love playing together, so we decided to do a combined Olympics (I must admit it was not my idea....I'm not that clever, Jennifer is). We made goals at the beginning of the year, and our "events" were to help remind us of the goals. The kids had a lot of fun. They each made their own little flags, and the families made large flags.

Sorry there are no pictures of the actual events. We had a few relay races, manners quiz, and spiritual aspect also. I think the kids enjoyed it and want to do it again. It was great that it coincided with the actual Olympics (although we have no snow!).

So, I'm taking photos to include with Christmas cards (no I haven't gotten those done yet...) and when there are 3 kids it is tough getting them all to focus at one time, and to smile and look at the camera. I guess I was over taxing their little brains because it took quite a few attempts to get one good photo. I'm going to post the "outtakes" here. Enjoy!

Giving Thanks

We had a small Thanksgiving Dinner this year. Just our family and my grandma. It was nice & quiet. We are thankful to have a house to call home, for all the food we had to eat, and our family. It was a feast!

It was difficult waiting for Halloween night to come because the kids had Friday off of school (Nevada Day) and Halloween wasn't until Saturday. Thankfully, the evening finally came and the boys had tons of fun at the trunk or treat at church and then trick or treating afterward.

So, what movie talks about taking a vacation from your problems??? Quiz time!

I was able to tag along with Ryan while he went on a Rope Rescue class (the second one) for work in Bellingham, WA. A few other wives were there too. It was so nice....70 degrees......and beautiful! I guess it was raining the week before we were there and it is going to rain this week, so we took up the sunshine with us! A big thanks goes to my mom who watched the kids so I could go.

Another post finally!! We took a little vacay to Southern CA (because that is where the fun is). We visited LegoLand and the beach. Fun times....

Colin celebrated birthday 4 this week. He had a few friends over (and their older siblings) for a party. We had a few games outside and bubbles. Then had pizza....requested by the birthday boy...

And we finished it off with yummy cupcake cones. You bake the cupcake right in the cone and frost it and it looks like an ice cream cone. I guess it looked too real, because some of the kids were still wanting cake....even after eating the cupcake and knowing it was not ice cream. I apologize to the moms whose children were "psyched out" by the cupcakes.I think Mr. C had a fun day and I can't believe the baby is 4 now!!

Come to Zion, come to Zion

We went on a day trip through Zion National Park on Saturday. Ryan's mom came to town for Colin's Birthday (covered in the next post), and Ryan wanted us all to see the scenery. Didn't leave Vegas until almost 1pm. We went through a great rainstorm in St. George along the way. Got into the park and let the boys get out and run around on the trail. They crossed a little stream with Daddy and found some sticks to help them walk. Then we got back in the car and drove through the park more. Stopped again at another area and the big boys climbed up some rocks. Colin played in the fine sand.

When we left the park we made a loop for Cedar City. Went up in the mountains where the temp dropped and then saw this great view.

Dinner in St George and finally home around 10:30pm. Long day!

Gone Fishing....

We went with our neighbors to Floyd Lamb State Park the other day for fishing. We've never been fishing before, so it was interesting. Liam & Quinn took turns holding the pole, but never had any bites. A man close by caught a crayfish (yuck) and that was all. The fish just were not biting. The boys were disappointed. I told them that fishing takes a lot of patience. It was nice to just get away from the craziness for a bit and be outside with lots of trees and water....and geese.

This is the "green" bookshelf Ryan created for L & Q's room. It's green because we re-used the materials from their former bunkbeds. We sacrificed beauty for durability. That thing is STRONG!! The colors are deepest aqua and orchid. The boys picked the colors.....I guess it works for them. This bookshelf holds all their books and still has room for games and extras. I'm excited to move the games from the hall closet to get more space there. Also be sure to note the "protectors" of the room sitting on the top shelf.

First day of summer vacation........playing the XBox! I'm going to have to limit the time on that!

Birthday Celebration

I've had a great birthday week....celebrating over a few days. Ryan was so great to invite my friends and their families over for ice cream cake on my actual birthday. Then the day after, we went to dinner & my "big" present was tickets for O.

All I can say of the show is..... AWESOME! I am in awe of these performers who can do such amazing acrobatics & combine it with swimming too. The show could have gone on for 4 hours and I still would have been sitting mesmerized and enjoying all of it! So, if you haven't been, GO!!!

Just came back from a quick trip to Provo, UT to visit my Alma Mater. I went with my friend, Nicole to Women's Conference....actually, we only went for one day (the conference is 2 days long), but I really enjoyed the one day. There were A LOT of women there!!

It was fun to go back to visit the campus again. I haven't been back for quite a while, and a lot has changed! Whole buildings are gone and new ones have sprung up in their places. Amazing. Brought back all the memories of dorm life and cramming for finals....also good memories too. Had fun wandering the bookstore (without kids!) and eating some of the yummy Creamery ice cream.

Quinn's front tooth was hanging on (barely) yesterday afternoon. He had wiggled it all day at school. We worked on it, but couldn't get the stubborn thing out last night. So this morning, I said we HAD to get it out before school! We pulled and twisted and cried. Finally, the thing popped out when I pulled on it.

The next one is not far behind. And Liam is working on his too. Stay tuned for more tooth updates!

Had a fun Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday at the Gardens Park. Throw in a bunch of eggs and kids and it turns into a party! Everyone left a winner. Even Quinn, although in the photo above, he appears to be sad to have no eggs....he just hid them under the "grass" in his bucket.

We went out to the County Fair with some friends Thursday afternoon. Kids had a great time on the rides. Food was expensive and greasy...just as expected. We saw animals....reminded me of when we had some animals while growing up (cows, pigs, chickens, goats). Also saw a few cheezy shows (very bad acting). Everyone had fun getting out and doing something different!

Yes, the crazy hat day at school today for NV reading week. Every day has been something funny. There was pajama day yesterday, dress like Dr. Seuss (in white, black, red) day Tuesday, & Monday was wear-a-shirt-with-a-lot-of-words day. Tomorrow? Crazy sock day. All in celebrating reading. I love that they are promoting reading and that my kids love reading.

This is how Colin shows his love for the kitties. Seamus will run when Colin comes along, but Finnegan either hasn't learned or actually likes the attention. Colin will find Finnegan laying around and just go "snuggle" him. That actually means he lays on top of him and gives him a big squishy hug. Reminds me of the girl on the Animaniacs cartoon, Elmyra. She always says, "I'm gonna hug you and kiss you and love you FOREVER!"

The Joys of Boys

Ok, all of you realize that I'm surrounded by boys all the time, right? 3 little boys, 1 big boy, 2 boy kitties......and me the lone girl. Sometimes this is good. Lately, I've been not so sure. I am getting more and more grossed out as these boys get older. Now the older ones like to teach the youngest all they know too. I'm constantly bombarded with passing gas and burping. Then there are all the many names for private parts that keep popping up (tenders, junk, nuts....you get the idea). Maybe it is because I grew up with a sister and no brothers?? Maybe I don't have that great of a sense of humor?? I don't know. Some days it is just too much and I want to run away!

But then look at how cute they can be (see above photo)!! Is this the blessing and curse of boys??

Last week we had the great opportunity to join my Brother in Law on the flight line at Nellis AFB. He is here visiting from Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina (where he is stationed now). We got to get up close to the F-15 jets and watch them take off. Fun times! I think Ryan had the most fun of all of us. Thanks Sgt. Brown & thanks to Meredith too!

Tax Talk

Ok, so I haven't posted lately. I have a really good reason.....taxes. In case you don't know, it is tax time again (I know, already!) and I am working part time for Intuit in the Turbo Tax Live Community. Anyway, that cuts down on my "free time"....wait, did I really have free time before? The cool thing is that I get to work from home (sometimes in my pjs!) so I can do it around the kids' schedules.

So, I will try to post as much as I can, but don't be too sad if you don't see many new things. April 15th....here I come!!

Valley of Fire

We stopped off at the Valley of Fire on our way home from St. George. It was the perfect day to do some rock climbing! The boys had a great time scrambling up rocks and running around. We even saw some petroglyphs ( I think that is how it is spelled ). And Ryan got to use his new skills to do some rock climbing and try to teach the older boys about it. They were not too sure. We'll have to take it slowly with them.

Family Mini-Vacation

We decided to do a little vacation this week because the boys were off of school Mon & Tues and Ryan happened to be off of work too. We didn't want to travel too far, so we went to St. George. Here are some pictures of the hotel. It was pretty great. A kitchen, living room (with fold out bed) a bedroom with a queen bed and a bedroom with a king bed (and a bathroom). There was just one thing.....the beds were HARD as ROCKS!! Two good nights of sleep lost for Erin & Ryan!Kitchen

Finally after begging him, Colin agreed to a haircut. His bangs were so long they were in his eyes. Now he can see and the hair doesn't make him sweaty. He looks like he aged a few months too. No more baby!!

Ryan had a trip last week to Washington to learn more about rope rescue. The class was Monday to Friday, and he had a great time. As you can see, he feels perfectly comfortable just "hanging around"! I think the week was like a boy scout camp for grown men....knot tying, cracking jokes and being silly. We're glad he came home safe!

The class is so cute and the teacher teaches them to do "stick" and "Ta da" (you know like the real gymnasts do). Today they learned about the vault. The all time favorite is still the trampoline!

General Conference Weekend

So it was General Conference this past weekend. I wanted the boys to watch at least 1 session of conference each day. So, I printed out their own little activity packets to color and to encourage them to listen to the speakers. They were really excited at first and got right into it. Then 1 hr into Sat morning session, Q asks, "How long is this?" I told him it was 2 hours. "2 hours???That is soooooo long". Excuse me? Um, church is 3 hours & you don't get to sit around the house. Anyway, it was downhill from there. Whine, whine, whine. So by Sunday I just told them to leave me alone so I could watch. Did that happen? Of course not. Oh well. Glad it is online and printed in the Ensign!

Gymnastics

Colin & I are in a tot & parent gymnastics class for 2 & 3 year olds. It is pretty fun. We are taking it with our friends Danica & her mom Nicole. So far the kids have learned how to do forward rolls, walk on the balance beam, jump on the trampoline, monkey swing from a bar and do some handstands. Here is are photos of Colin practicing the handstands at home.

He and Danica both LOVE the class and talk about it all week (it is only once per week). I'm glad I found something he really likes to do!

Poor kitty had to have an operation this week. He was neutered. I don't know what else to say, but OUCH! He had to stay at the vet for the whole day. When we picked him up he seemed very upset that we had left him there. When we got him home he hid under the bed until about 4am. Now he seems to be back to his normal self....chasing paper balls and biting my ankles while I try to go up the stairs.

Oh yeah, baby! A trip to the Mini Gran Prix makes the birthday boys smile! Those smiles were plastered from ear to ear!! The boys got to drive their own race cars, slide down a fast slide, go on a roller coaster and a plane spinner. Then we went inside for more fun with arcade games. Finished up with a dinner at Applebees (their favorite for the mozzarella sticks) & presents at home.

First day of 2nd grade was Monday. Liam & Quinn were excited to go back to school. They got new backpacks, shoes and haircuts. Even though we moved, we stayed in the same school, so they were able to see their old friends. They both seem to be happy and like their teachers. There are only about 17 kids in each of their classes.

No homework on the first day of school....at least for the kids. They both came home with TONS of papers for ME to fill out. How is that fair? Homework for the mom!!

Ryan gave them both beautiful blessings to help them with the new school year. I think that made them feel special.

Everyone loves the bathroom! Even the kitty. Here is the evidence that he was here. Did you know that toilet paper is a great cat toy? Yeah, our kitty loves to unroll it all over the floor. Then he proceeds to play with it and rip it up. Argh!

Add that to potty training & my bathrooms are a mess!!!! Colin is doing pretty well with the potty training. He really likes wearing the "big boy" underwear. Sometimes it is just hard to stop playing and get to the toilet!

Yesterday we took a trip to the Anderson Dairy. It was a FREE tour and ended in FREE ice cream. Also, it was inside where there was air conditioning. What could be better in the summer? It was a cute tour with some animatronic animals (think Bear Country Jamboree from Disneyland) and a walk down the halls to see the workers making cottage cheese & sour cream. We also saw the milk being bottled into plastic gallon size jugs. A conveyor carrying empty jugs stretched across the hall above our heads and into the room where the jugs were filled. It was a pretty cool setup. Down another hall we saw the huge freezer for the ice cream. Then we watched a movie of the history of Anderson Dairy and were treated to a yummy bowl of Cookies & Cream ice cream. The kids all enjoyed it!

Another tooth gone! Just a few days after the first, Quinn's other front tooth looked like it was going to wobble out so......Ryan just pulled it out quickly. Little help from Orajel (to numb everything) and it was out. Now Quinn has a great new smile. Awwww. Isn't he cute???

Check out the gaping hole! Quinn lost the same tooth that Liam lost a month or so ago. We are all very excited to see the new tooth coming in. Tonight the tooth fairy will be at our house.

Summertime fun

Here are the boys having fun before the FREE movie. They were running around outside while we waited. Every Tuesday & Wednesday our local movie theater shows movies from last year for free for families. You have to get there early to get a seat, but it is really fun. Of course, I never seem to do the totally free thing.....we always have to buy a drink or popcorn (or there will be much whining), but I figure it is still cheaper than paying for tickets AND goodies! Plus it is inside and air conditioned!!! What could be better?

Hard to believe this boy is 3 years old already! (Of course some days he thinks he is 6). He had a great birthday with a lot of presents that he loves. Now to work on the potty training so he can wear the Cars underwear!!!

Isn't he soooo cute? We finally named him Seamus, so he fits in with all the names in our family. Seamus is growing quickly. He has as much energy as the 3 human boys!!! He can sit still for little bits of time, but mostly he spends the day chasing toys or feet around the house. He even chases his tail ( I thought only dogs did that ). He has such a loud purr too.

We all love him. Colin loves to pick him up and carry him to his food. Liam & Quinn love to have him chase a rope while they run. Ryan loves to play rough with him. Erin likes to have him purring nicely on her lap. Kitties are great!

First grade has ended successfully! Liam & Quinn are now on to 2nd grade in the fall. Both boys did very well in school (thanks to loving & fabulous teachers) and received many awards the other day at an assembly. We're so proud of them!!!

Now how do we fill the long, hot days of summer, you may ask??? We'll be going to the free family movies shown weekly at our movie theater, playing at the parks with water features & hopefully keeping cool.

Liam lost a tooth!

Liam lost his first tooth last night. He has been wiggling it for a few weeks now. We realized it was ready to come out, but he was too afraid to pull it out himself. Daddy wiggled and pulled until it popped right out. After Liam said he didn't even know it had come out, so maybe now he won't be afraid for the next teeth to come out. He received $1 from the "tooth fairy."

A new addition to our family! He is a 9 week old little boy. So far he doesn't have a name. We're working on that. We have a lot of suggestions, but not sure what the final one will be. His name is kitty for now.

He is very cute and playful. He loves to attack your feet as you walk by. He really enjoys being around people.

This picture is of a rare moment when he is taking a nap. With all the noise around here, that is a hard thing to do!

First Water Play of the Season

There are many local parks that have water features at them. It is a great way to cool off and burn some energy at the same time. The water was just turned on, so we visited the Paseos Park on Saturday. Unfortunately the water is very cold. That is good when it is 100 degrees out, but not so great when it is only 85. The boys all had fun anyway.

Party at the Park

Today we were at a birthday party at a new park. It was VERY windy, but all the boys had fun. Colin really loves swinging. Liam & Quinn ran around and climbed on the play structures. They didn't seem to mind how windy it was. Everyone had to hold onto their plates while eating cake or else it would have blown away. Quinn's cake actually did fly onto Liam's arm. Never know what to exect at a birthday party!

These babies are turning 7 this year. AHHH! Sometimes I like to look at their baby photos to remind myself how cute they are. Because, you know, some days they don't act cute anymore. What's that you say?.....You don't believe me??? Let me think of any instances of this from today....hmmmm.....

Quinn threw things at me today because I took away the remote for the X-Box when it was no longer his turn......Liam was mad because I didn't have tortillas to make him a quesadilla.....and both were upset when I told them we wouldn't be going to the Dollar store on Sunday after Great Grandma had given them $1. ooooh.....I'm sooooo mean!

It was more physically demanding caring for twin babies, but now my patience is being tested to the limits. Guess I need to develop more!

Bishop's Breakfast

Today was the annual Bishop's Breakfast. This is something Liam & Quinn look forward to ALL YEAR! Every few months they ask, "When is the Bishop's Breakfast?" We go to a nearby park & the Bishop has his counselors cook the breakfast while he greets everyone. (HA HA). Every year the food is about the same: pancakes, scrambled eggs & sausage. I think L & Q love it because it is eating outside......and they love pancakes too.

The thing that was different this year is that Liam & Quinn got to ride their bikes to the breakfast. Yes, no lie. They rode from our house, uphill to the park. Thanks to Gramma & Grampa Luker for riding along with them.

After breakfast there is usually an activity for the kids. This year, for some reason, there was no activity. But my kids had fun anyway trying Bocce ball and Horseshoes. Quinn even had a few ringers!
